The Canora Cobras are advancing to the SEHL championship series after holding off the Swan Valley Axemen 4-3 in the fifth and deciding game of their North Division final series on Friday night in Canora.
Scott Mickoski scored three times, including the winner as the Cobras built up a 3-1 lead in the first period.
The Axemen got back to within 3-2 before the end of the opening period but Mickoski restored the two goal advantage in the second.
Josh Tripp, who had an incredible series with 19-points in 5-games, scored early in the third for Swan Valley but there would be no more scoring after that point.
Austin Severson had Canora's other goal while Jeff Riddell and Jackson Betcher had the other Swan Valley goals.
It was a highly competitive series with three of the five games going to overtime, and four of the five ending in one-goal differentials.
Swan Valley won the first two but the Cobras stayed alive with overtime wins in game three and four before getting in front and holding on to the lead in game five.
The league championship series between Canora and Rocanville will see the Cobras have home ice advantage. The schedule should be released, possibly, as soon as today (Saturday).
