TIGERS DRAW FIRST BLOOD

TIGERS DRAW FIRST BLOOD

Mike Stackhouse

The Rocanville Tigers used a three goal second period to bust open a close game and defeat the hometown Canora Cobras 6-3 in game one of the best of five league final series on Friday night.

Landyn Cochrane opened the scoring in the final minute of the first and that seemed to spark the Tigers, who got an early second period goal from Dakota Odgers and then another one a few minutes later from Ryan Regel, his first of two, and then Brett Hope finished off a nice display of puck movement on the powerplay and that put the game out of reach with eight minutes left in the second.

Canora didn't break through on Dakota Berezowski until Cody Dubas rifled a point shot while the Cobras were on a powerplay midway through the third, but it was 5-1 at that point.

Stephane Robidioux was the offensive leader in this one with a goal and two assists.  Regel, Cochrane, and Odgers all ended up with two points; as did Taylor Thompson (2 helpers).

Scott Mickoski and Jake Heerspink also had goals for Canora, who will try to even the series tonight in Rocanville.  Note the game time - 7pm.

Game three is slated for Canora next Friday, March 29.
