FRIDAY NIGHT GAME ONE RECAPS

FRIDAY NIGHT GAME ONE RECAPS

Mike Stackhouse

The closest game of the night was in Whitewood, where the Wapella Blackhawks fell short in a 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Langenburg Warriors in game one of the best of three series.  The Blackhawks got a powerplay goal from Troy Murray, his second of the game, with 2:44 to go in regulation to get his team to within one, but a powerplay goal by Tristan McKay with just over a minute to go sealed the game.  Wapella led the contest 2-1 after one on goals from Cole Hayhurst and Murray more than offsetting Langenburg's opening goal from Mike Rogoschewksy.  Chad Kilimnik tied it at 2 and then Nick Carlson put the Warriors ahead for good midway through the second.  It was the first of two for Carlson and Rylee Zimmer, who finished with four points, also scored for Langenburg.  Nathan Murray had the other Wapella goal.  Game two is next Friday, February 16th in Langenburg.

Rocanville needed a three-goal third to cushion their victory over the Churchbridge Imperials, scoring a 7-3 decision.  The Imperials trailed 4-1 but got to within 4-3 before the end of the second on goals from Drew Putland and Cole Cusitar.  Brett Hope and Taylor Thompson scored early in the third to erase any thoughts of an upset.  Hope, Thompson, and Massen Ziola all had two goals and two assists to lead the Tigers.  Ryan Regel also scored for the winning side.  Putland had two points to pace the Imperials and Chris Korchinski rounded out their scoring.  Game two in the series is next Saturday, February 17th with the home side facing elimination.

In Canora, the heavily favored Cobras scored seven first period goals on their way to a 13-2 drubbing of the Cote Selects in game one of the best of three.  They can wrap up the series with a win at Cote on February 15th.  Kody Rock and Troy Zulyniak led the way with four points apiece with Rock getting the hat trick.  Ryley Stefanyshyn and Skylar Hladun scored twice each while singles came from Vaughn Wilgosh, Tanner Kopeck, Tomas Hauber, Logan Foster, and Tanner Mak.  Hayden Lacquette and Brandon Pelletier scored for the Selects.
