SEHL REGULAR SEASON AWARD WINNERS

SEHL REGULAR SEASON AWARD WINNERS

MIKE STACKHOUSE

The SaskEast Hockey League announced individual award winners on Friday as a result of a league wide voting process.

Each submitted its own candidates for each award and then when the voting commenced, teams were not allowed to vote for their own players.  In the event of a tie, votes submitted by League Executive were counted as a means to break the deadlock.

The SEHL Most Valuable Player for 2024 is Churchbridge Imperials forward Chris Korchinski, who scored 15-goals and 13-assists in 13-games played for the new club, helping them squeak into the playoffs in their inaugural season.  Taylor Thompson, of Rocanville, was a close runner-up with Carter Cockburn of the Swan Valley Axemen placing third.

Thompson was chosen as the league's top forward, on the strength of his 34-goals and 34-assists in 14-games played.  Korchinski was second and Cockburn third.

The top defenseman is Canora's Vaughn Wilgosh, who combined strong offensive play (14-3-12-15) with equally strong defensive efforts.  Swan Valley's Jackson Betcher and Langenburg's Evan Werle finished in a tie for second.

Theodore's Warren Shymko is the Top Goaltender, nosing out Deven Dubyk of the  Axemen and Rylan Palchewich of the Cobras.  Shymko was the backbone of an injury riddled Buffs team that kept them in the mix for first place in their division all season.

Rookie of the Year was a close four horse race, with Buffalos dman Dylan Thackeray emerging over Tomas Hauber of Canora, Jamie Valentino of the Axemen, and Brock Kirkland of Churchbridge.  Thackeray had 4-goals and 10-assists in 12-games played while leading the blueline.

Canora's Kody Rock was named Most Improved with Ituna's Ryan Rathgeber receiving significant notice in finishing second.  Massen Ziola of Rocanville was third.

Coach of the Year is Canora's Darren Schwartz, who led his team to a 13-and-1 season.  Jeff Odgers, of Rocanville, who's team was also 13-and-1, finished second and third was BJ Wowchuk of Churchbridge.
