SWAN VALLEY GOES UP TWO

The Swan Valley Axemen rallied from a 7-4 third period deficit to defeat the Canora Cobras 9-8 in overtime on Saturday night to take a commanding 2-0 series lead in the best of five league semi-final.

Forty seconds after serving a minor penalty, Josh Tripp converted on a 2-on-1, receiving a pass from Evan Herman that ended the contest near the midway point of the first extra period.

Herman also scored the tying goal that forced overtime with two minutes to go in the third.  Tripp had a phenomenal game with 9-points (3-goals and 6-assists), factoring in on every single Swan Valley goal.  Herman added two and finished with six points.  Carter Cockburn also scored two and finished with a four point evening.  Jamie Valentino and Jackson Betcher rounded out the scoring for the Axemen, who can win the series with a win at Canora next Friday night.

For the second straight game, the Cobras held a wide edge in shots on goal but come up short.  Logan Foster scored three while Scott Mickoski scored once and had a hand in three others.  Troy Zulyniak, William Hauber, Kody Rock, and Jake Heerspink also scored for Canora, who entered the series 15-and-1 overall in SEHL play.

The other semi-final between Langenburg and Rocanville is slated for Sunday at 5pm in Rocanville.  As of noon time, there is no word on this being cancelled due to weather but check with your local teams before making the journey out.
