BUFFS WIN SHOWDOWN WITH CANORA

BUFFS WIN SHOWDOWN WITH CANORA

Mike Rogoschewsky scored two goals but it was Dylan Johnson's back breaker with five minutes remaining in the third period that ended up crushing the comeback hopes of the Canora Cobras as the visiting Theodore Buffalos emerged as 4-2 winners on Saturday night in front of more than 300 fans.

The victory also spoiled a valiant effort from Cobra goalie Rylan Palchewich, who finished with 46 saves.

Logan Calanchie broke a 1-1 tie with a powerplay goal early in the second and then Rogoschewsky scored a nice top shelf goal to increase the lead to 3-1 before the end of the middle frame.  Palchewich held his team in the game until Johnson put it out of reach at 4-1.

Skyler Hladun opened the scoring in the first period for Canora and he also set up Cole Rathgeber's goal in the dying moments of the third.

The Buffs will wrap up the pre-Christmas schedule with a road game in Ituna tonight (Sunday).  It marks the home opener for the Avalanche, who go into the contest 0-and-6.  Theodore is the lone unbeaten team at 3-and-0 however they'll be without top defenseman Keanan Sperling, who was suspended for 1 game as a result of a fight before the third period buzzer with Tanner Denesowych (also suspended).

On Friday, Rocanville improved to 5-and-1 with a 5-2 victory over the Whitewood Orioles.

The Orioles actually led this game 2-1 until late in the second.  Dawson Springer's second of the night tied it with 1:32 to go and then Ashley Howie, who had a four point night, scored forty seconds later to put the Tigers in front heading into the third where Stephane Fouillard and Dillan Reavie tacked on to the lead.

Trey Bear and Sterling Bear scored for Whitewood.
