STRETCH DRIVE HITS

STRETCH DRIVE HITS

MIKE

With the regular season hitting the strech drive and with three weeks remaining, let's take a look at the playoff format and what the matchups would be if the postseason started today.

Because each team has played a different number of games, winning percentage was used to determine where each team would slot.  Canora and Esterhazy are tied, but the Cobras won the head to head game so they are the higher seed.

1-Langenburg

2-Swan Valley

3-Rocanville

4-Canora

5-Esterhazy

6-Theodore

7-Cote

8-Churchbridge

9-Wapella

10-Russell

11-Preeceville (out of playoffs)

HYPOTHETICAL PLAY-IN:

Cote and Russell would play a home and home series for the right to move on and play in the quarters.  If Cote wins, they'd get Swan Valley.  If Russell wins, they'll play Langenburg.  If the Cote vs Russell series is tied after 2 games, they flood the ice and play overtime with the next goal winning.

The same holds true for Churchbridge vs Wapella.  Two games, winner moves on to play Langenburg unless Russell wins over Cote....then the winner plays Swan Valley.

The quarter-finals would then see Langenburg vs the lowest remaining seed of the 7, 8, 9, 10 seeds.

Swan Valley would play the highest of those seeds.

3-Rocanville vs 6-Theodore (best of three)

4-Canora vs. 5-Esterhazy (best of three)

There is still plenty of jostling that could take place between now and the end of the regular season as there is a logjam between 3rd and 7th.

There is also a logjam between 8th and 10th.

Key Games remaining -

Jan 15 Rocanville at Esterhazy

Jan 16 Esterhazy at Langenburg

Jan 16 Canora at Swan Valley - Cobras can still wrestle their way into a top two spot but need to win this game

Jan 23 Esterhazy at Rocanville - Flyers have a tough schedule to close it out, they probably need to win 2 of their 5 to stay out of the 7 spot

Jan 23 Churchbridge at Russell - Any game featuring the 8, 9, 10 seeds are crucial for standings placement

Jan 24 Rocanville at Langenburg - Tigers have only played 10 games so they are still in the mix for the 1-2 seed, but five of their six games will come against top four teams.

Jan 30 Canora at Rocanville - Tigers have a lot of key matchups that will, ultimately, determine where everyone slots

Jan 30 Russell at Wapella

Jan 31 Rocanville at Swan Valley - Regular season finale that could decide who gets the 2 seed.

Jan 31 Churchbridge at Wapella

Cote has two games left, one against Preeceville and one against Wapella.  If they win those, they still need help to stay out of 7th.

Theodore has three games left (two against Preeceville and one against Canora) and they hold tiebraker over Cote for the 7 spot.  Winning 2/3 keeps them in 6th or better.
