The Grandview Comets built up a 4-0 lead in the first period and held on to defeat the Canora Cobras 5-3 on Saturday night to move into a playoff position.
The Comtes are now 4-and-8, which leapfrogs them over both the 3-and-9 Cote Selects and teh 3-7-and-1 Wapella Blackhawks.
Evan Gullett got the scoring started in the game's first minute and Dave Elder picked up a pair in the opening twenty minute barrage. Brett Ewanyshyn factored in on four Comets' goals (1-3-4) and Brenden Kozak also picked up a single marker with Brett Evans holding the fort and making upwards of 40-saves to secure the win.
Riley Stefanyshyn, Kolt Konan, and Tyler Shankowsky scored for Canora, who fall to 5-4-and-2.
The Blackhawks were beaten 8-1 by the visiting Theodore Buffalos. The Buffs broke open a 1-1 game with three in the middle period and never looked back.
Jordan Evans had two goals and two assists while Zach McIntyre also contributed a pair. Colby Vranai picked up a goal and four assists with other markers coming from Keenan Taphorn, Dylan Johnson, and Keanan Sperling.
Nathan Murray had the lone goal for the Hawks.
Two games were cancelled on Saturday as there were no officials available to work the game in Swan Valley. There was a water break in Cote.
