The Theodore Buffs erased a 2-0 first period deficit and defeated the Rocanville Tigers 4-2 on Saturday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best of five league final.
The Tigers pounced on Kevin Dziaduck, making his return from injury layoff, by scoring in the opening minute of the game as Ashley Howie swept in a loose puck and then Ryan Regel made a nice drop pass to Stephane Robidoux later in the frame for the 2-0 advantage.
Dziaduck, however, was perfect from that point on and the Buffs started to work their way back into the game. Josh Garbutt set up Dylan Johnson on a 2-on-1 before the end of the first and then Zach Korchinski tied it on a nice individual effort as part of a second period in which Theodore carried most of the play and the Tigers relied on Curtis Olson to keep them in it. Derrick Schwartz scored what would be the game winner as he rifled a shot top shelf for the 3-2 lead before the end of the middle frame.
Scott Woytas finished off a play that started with a turnover deep in the Rocanville end with 4:30 to go in the third and that sealed the deal and the two teams will play game two in Rocanville next Friday night.
