END OF OFFICIATING ERA

END OF OFFICIATING ERA

Friday night's game in Theodore will mark the end of a storied era in on-ice officiating.

Long time official Garry Gawryliuk will hang up his whistle after serving the Saskatchewan hockey community for 43-years.

The current Referee In Chief for the Saskeast Hockey League has had the privilege to share the ice with players in the WHL, SJHL, SMAAAHL, Senior, and various levels of minor hockey.

Gawryliuk has already been recognized for his 33-years of service with Sask Hockey through the Referees Division Executive by receiving a limited edition print presented to members who have gone above and beyond in their services to the officials Executive Branch.

He was part of a committee established to write an Officials Workbook, which was adopted by Hockey Canada and is still used today as a teaching resource.

Gawryliuk is expected to continue to serve as an instructor for officials as they re-register each year and he will also still be involved as a coach/mentor.

A lesser known fact is that Gawryliuk also played defense for the Theodore Buffalos in the late 1970s.

Before Friday's 8:30 puck drop, there will be a special ceremony with Garry, who has handpicked three other on-ice officials to be by his side for this final appearance.
