COBRAS STING ITUNA IN OPENER

COBRAS STING ITUNA IN OPENER

St. Marie scores Cobras' third goal of the nightSeven different players enjoyed two goal games as the Canora Cobras rode a late first period barrage and never let up in downing the Ituna Avalanche 17-5 in the SEHL's opening night of the regular season on Friday.

With the Cobras leading 2-0, Donnie St Marie got his first of two with just two minutes to go in the opening frame and then that was quickly followed by Darcy Sliva's first of two just thirteen seconds after.  Matt Wilgosh made it a 5-0 game with eight seconds remaining in the first and the route was on.

Brennan Watson finished with two goals and five points to lead all players in offense.  Kody Rock picked up two, as did captain Ryley Stefanyshyn.  Lee Janett, who like St Marie has come over from Bredenbury, and Cole Rathgeber (another Bredenbury product) all had two goal games.  Tanner Kopeck and Vaughn Wilgosh rounded out the scoring for the Cobras.

Keelan Saworski got Ituna's first goal after it was 9-0.  Mike Bzdel, Dylan Kuschak, and Landon Kuschak also scored for Ituna.

There was a near full house to watch the Cobras in their inaugural game as 328 was the announced attendance.

It was a similar story in Whitewood, except it was the visitors who poured it on late in the first.  The Rocanville Tigers broke open a 0-0 game with four goals in the final seven minutes of the opening period on their way to a 10-2 decision over the Orioles.

Brad Third and Jacob Tibbatts each scored twice for the Tigers.  Dawson Springer, Ryan Regel, Dylan Haney, Dakota Odgers, Dillan Reavie, and Stephane Fouillard all collected singles.Ashley Howie notched three assists.

Valdez Bear and Luke Wyatt scored for Whitewood, who also had a healthy crowd of nearly 300 for their season opener.
